Healy & Svoren win appeal in Supreme Court
Preserve $30,000 judgment
| Timothy P. Healy won a $30,000
judgment for a client who was beaten in his own place of business over a
disputed debt. Crane Brothers, Inc., a well digging firm, was trying
to collect a debt from Stephen May. May disputed the amount of the
debt Crane Brothers claimed it was owed. An employee of Crane
Brothers assaulted May in his place of business and caused physical injury
to him. A Stephens County Jury awarded May $30,000 in punitive
damages to punish Crane Brothers. The Court of Appeals reversed the
punitive damages award, but the Supreme Court of Georgia, in a decision
issued March 2, 2003, reversed the Court of Appeals and reinstated the
award. |
